Lucky Dube: Another Star in the Reggae Firmament

20 04 2008

I am deeply saddened with the news of Lucky Dube’s deadly shooting. It seems Reggae is loosing its luminaries to nonsense violence and there is no reasonable explanation for killing such a great man just to steal his vehicle. Peter Tosh had similar luck in 1987, when several men entered his house demanding money and killed Tosh when he told them he did not have any.

The world is inexorable marching down a path of immorality and impunity and Mama Africa does not escape this reality, which augments its well-known AIDS, hunger, racism and injustice problems. The irony is that we are diminishing our hopes for a better future by murdering those that are our guiding lights for achieving our most sacred ideals.

I am paying a tribute to Lucky Dube by playing what he loved most: music.

In this House of Exile, I look at the Crazy World full of War and Crime, in which you: Lucky Dube, were an innocent Victim. It’s not Easy, but you need to Hold On and Take it to Jah because you Reap What you Sow so Keep on Knocking and Good Things will happen.

Different Colours/One People unite to thank you for making Reggae Strong and because we Think About the Children; we will become Soldiers of Righteousness.

I don’t Cry and even while Running, Falling, I will be Up with Hope and stay away from False Prophets.

Is this the way? How will I know?

I will Take it to Jah and Remember Me from Heaven. The bible tells us that The Hand that Giveth, Taketh and while I remain in this Mickey Mouse Freedom, You know where to find me.

You’ve Got a Friend!
